| Component |
Cylinder Control Manifold |
The original installation of the equipment was dated to 2001, the date of inspection mid 2005.
The original requirement of life time operational was 30 years.
It has for some time been considered that nickel plating of steel manifold blocks in
this type of environment was suitable & sufficient to prevent corrosion
of the surfaces.
It is evident from this image that exposure to the environment combined with road salts,
further considerations of protective finishes are required.
Considerations are recommended with respect to material selection of fixings & components,
in this particular application a steel manual lowering needle valve
was provided, corrosion of the exposed thread, rendered the valve
unusable in the event of an emergency, the exact purpose of it's
existence.
Solution
Use of stainless steel bodied components where ever possible, stainless
steel fixings, stainless steel pipe fittings & Denso Tape steel plated
manifold assembly.
